In Los Angeles, the day before her eighteenth birthday, Ella faces an attempt on her life by otherworldly assailants. A mysterious warrior rescues her but only to pull her into an alternate world with much greater danger! The brink of war has engulfed the picturesque lands of Evynlore. Wraiths amass an army for their master, a sorcerer, mortal against all but the one who bears KayShadden Delnor blood—her blood. She must stop the tyrant to save the world, or die along with everyone else.

The problem? In Evynlore, vows cannot be broken. If they are, you die… and Ella took a vow of pacifism long before she was ever dragged into this mess.

But there’s hope! Everyone’s been conspiring to aid her since before she was born, and as she chips away at the unknown past of her ancestry, the answer to her problem becomes clear… but she doesn’t like it. The divine was the reason she took an oath against killing, since it was God who called her friend away to a war back on Earth—but it’s looking like divine help might be what she needs to succeed, at the risk of trusting a God she knows is not to be trusted.

It doesn’t help her confidence that her dreams keep showing her the future and her own imminent death, including glimpses of her fate after death—a deep pit in the earth with a Beast devouring her for all eternity. 

It does help that the warrior seems to be on her side and is willing to double-cross the council to give her her best chance at completing her mission whilst also making it out alive. There may even be a way to ensure paradise after death instead of that pit, if she can discover what it is before her time runs out and the sorcerer comes knocking.
